Carolina Gold Rice first arrived in the colony in 1685 on a ship from Madagascar and was named by the famous Dr. Henry Woodward for its golden color.  At the peak of rice cultivation in the South East, over 200,000 acres of land was planted along the coast.  These plantations centered on Charleston with many rice planters owning several thousands of acres.  This rice comes from a plantation in the Pee Dee area that is on traditional rice land.  This two-pound bag of Carolina Gold Rice is a wonderful way to preserve and enjoy history.   NOTE:  Since 2008 was a challenging year for the growing of Gold rice, this will be our last shipment until fall of 2009 - so get a bag while it's still available.
